This is an exciting internship opportunity for an Engineering Student that will be responsible for supporting engineering and design teams on executing test and design/development of machinery/robotics to support Seagate Hard Drive Research & Design.

We are currently seeking excellent student engineers with creative minds who use their skills to conceptualize and develop solutions for complex engineering programs. Through the application of professionally accepted engineering development and design techniques, you will be part of an R&D team dedicated to advancing the design & fabrication of components for Magnetic Media.

This position is located at our new R & D facility located in Fremont, CA. You will report to the Principal Engineering Manager in the Substrate Technology Department.

As a part of the team, you will work with Technologists responsible for developing and delivering the most advanced technology substrates for the data storage industry.

Interns typically work Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm. The hours are subject to change with or without notice at the sole discretion of Seagate.

Responsibilities include:

  • Will be involved in the advanced prototyping of development materials that will be evaluated in R&D products.

  • Directly engaged with R&D precision tooling, pilot production, and analysis equipment.

  • Working side by side with technical staff to utilize design elements that directly add value to prototyping methods, providing innovative ideas where applicable.

  • Performing a variety of engineering functions associated with R&D process development and proving concepts with real articles.

  • Designing and performing laboratory experiments to evaluate media design concepts, optimize design, and perform analysis to enhance overall capability of processes and working models.

  • Hands on product development, modeling and reporting of results.

Qualifications:

  • Current Bachelor's, Master's or PhD student studying Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical engineering or related field.

  • Returning to school fall 2018.

  • Hands-on experience with process planning and analysis associated with the precision prototyping of a product, familiar with industrial safety standards of conduct.

  • Fundamental understanding of material properties & their relation to failure analysis.

  • Capability to work directly with equipment and material suppliers to identify the best methods to produce advanced components.

  • Experiences or in depth understanding optics, electronics and automation would be strong plus.

  • Proficient with SolidWorks and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to apply statistical analysis, quality control, using tools such as flow-charting, design and drafting support and document control.

  • Understands how to draw schematic on Autocad or Autocad Electrical.

  • Critical thinking, able to determine appropriate engineering methods, techniques, and procedures for new assignments.
