Job Title: Mortgage Intern (2)

Physical Location: Birmingham, AL and Houston, TX

Reports To: Community Development Lending Manager

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 - 5pm; 8 week summer program

BancorpSouth Bank's mortgage intern program is structured for those interested in assisting our clients with home ownership. As an intern, you get hands-on, real-world experience, and learn from mortgage banking industry leaders and mentors. Interns will be challenged with impactful projects, be exposed to new innovative technology, and will be included in the day-to-day excitement of the mortgage banking industry while under the supervision of experienced mortgage leaders. Our goal is to provide interns a good understanding of FHA, VA and conventional underwriting mortgage loan guidelines, and to provide a career path into our mortgage banking industry.

Primary Purpose: (Summary of major reason this internship exists)

To support the mortgage banking business unit of the bank by providing assistance to our mortgage unit and identify future college graduates looking to start their career with BancorpSouth in the mortgage industry.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: (Majority of duties performed, but not meant to be all inclusive or to prevent other duties from being assigned)

  • Provide assistance with mortgage loan packages: putting together required documents, keying loan entries, handling customer calls, setting appointments, filing loans, analyzing underwriting data
  • Support the mortgage department, review loan process with lender from origination to loan servicing
  • Support various in-house processes including correspondence, third party documents, and innovative ideas that expand business
  • Go out on calls with designated Lender
  • Work with Lender to review loan applications
  • Learn loan operation system quickly

Job Specifications: (Knowledge, skills, and abilities normally required for competent performance in the job)

Student requirement:

  • Interest in pursuing a career in mortgage banking
  • Current junior or senior student interested in Mortgage services majoring in Business Administration, Real Estate, Accounting, Marketing, Supply Chain Mgmt, Information Technology or other related business field
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Manage deadlines and working with supervision
  • Adhere to bank processes and guidelines based on various regulations
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with staff and assigned clients
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness, problem solving initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a desire to achieve goals
  • Proficient with spreadsheets and word processing software
  • Must be mobile and able to adapt to program changes with sufficient transportation to assigned location.

Preferred:

  • Customer service experience
  • Prior business development and marketing experience
