Description

Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) Election Judges assist voters at Voter Service and Polling Centers located throughout Arapahoe County. 

VSPC Election Judges must be available to work for the entire time that VSPCs are open, up to, and including, Election Day.

Note that VSPC locations may open up to 2 weeks in advance of Election Day.

VSPC Election Judges are cross-trained to perform ALL roles at the vote center.

**Locations: Aurora, Byers, Centennial, Englewood, Glendale, Greenwood Village and Littleton.

Note: This is a seasonal position with variable working hours based on business needs.
 

Duties

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time.

  • Greet voters, answer questions about the election, and direct voters to other VSPC judges.
  • Verify proper identification, register new voters and update existing voter registration.
  • Issue paper or mail ballots.
  • Prepare ballot marking devices for voters to cast their votes.
  • Manage security of ballot boxes at the polling centers.
  • Assist with VSPC set-up, and tear-down on election night.
  • Complete reconciliation and chain-of-custody paperwork.
  • Assist IT staff with technical support of VSPC equipment.
  • Supervisor judges will oversee the other judges and the operation of the VSPCs.

  • Personal communication skills enabling courteous and diplomatic interactions with voters and election poll watchers.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to focus on a single task for extended periods.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours and overtime or weekends when needed.
  • Knowledge of SCORE database, a plus.
  • Experience in VSPCs, a plus.
  • Ability to use personal mobile phone for daily communication with Election Staff and VSPC Supervisor.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • A resident and registered to vote in Colorado
  • Pass a pre-employment background check to include a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check
  • Not a candidate or a relative to the 2nd degree of a candidate on the ballot

Note - Student Judges are only hired for General Elections and must be 16 or 17 years old.


Supplemental Information

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  

  • VSPC Judges receive immediate supervision from the VSPC Supervisor Judge.  They may also receive supervision from Arapahoe County Elections employees. 
 
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:  
  • Primary contacts are with the voting public, the Ballot Security Team, and other Election Judges at their assigned VSPC.  Judges may also interact with employees of Arapahoe County Elections, IT, or Facilities departments.  These contacts require the ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is confined to a standard office setting and occasional warehouse setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.
  • Spends 80% of each day sitting and another 20% either walking or standing.
  • Occasionally lifts or carries up to 50 lbs, with the assistance of a co-worker.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication, as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
  • Eye, hand, and finger coordination, as well as visual capacity, enabling use of office equipment.
 
Definitions:
Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
