What Success Looks Like In This Job

The Colorado Air and Spaceport Operations Specialist shall perform a variety of duties in airport operations, customer service, compliance, and maintenance. This position requires working weekends and some Holidays.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Ability to learn and understand all other federal, state, and local rules, regulations, standards, and requirements governing air traffic, general aviation, airport safety and security, airport and movement area operating and maintenance standards, and other relevant matters as directed.
  • Ability to learn and understand the practices and principles of airport administration, operations, security, and airfield maintenance.
  • Ability to learn and have knowledge of building, grounds, and airfield inspection practices and principles.
  • Working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications required to collect, compile, analyze, and report data.
  • Coordinate and direct airport operations during assigned shift, ensuring the safety and security of the public, tenants, and airport staff.
  • Conduct periodic, daily, and as necessary, continuous inspections of runways, taxiways, and other airport facilities to identify and document damage, deterioration, debris, and other unsafe or non-compliant conditions.
  • Ensure Airport facilities and amenities are clean, professional, and well maintained by performing light janitorial and light-duty maintenance of the Airport Terminal, Airport Facilities, all aircraft parking, tie-down areas, courtesy car fleet, and all associated facilities utilized by the FBO operations.
  • Serve as a liaison for the Airport and FBO, specifically related to the Emergency Procedures Manual.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service to exceed industry standards in responding to questions and inquiries from the public, airport stakeholders, and/or governmental regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with airport compliance procedures as they apply to the Minimum Standards and Rules and Regulations.
  • Perform documented hangar inspections and follow up with tenants that are out of compliance per FAA grant assurances.
  • Perform light duty maintenance to airfield NAVAIDs, signs, lights, and markers. Issue NOTAMS as needed.
  • Assist in the operations and maintenance of all bulk fuel storage systems.
  • Implement snow and ice control procedures and ensure compliance with the Airport's Snow and Ice Control Plan.
  • Assist in Airport snow removal operations, as needed.
  • Perform mowing, trimming, and overall preservation of all landscaped areas around the terminal, hangars, buildings, and access roads.
  • Assist with FBO related duties as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.


Qualifications for Success

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Aviation and ground ground-based radio systems.
  • Respond to aircraft emergencies and airport emergencies. Explain Airport policies and procedures to the general public.
  • Work as a team player while also functioning under minimal supervision.
  • Multi-task, using personal initiative whenever possible.
  • Ability to operate a variety of light equipment, including those associated with aircraft fueling operations, in addition to large truck and heavy-duty equipment operation; ability to operate aircraft ground handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of two-way radio communications and techniques is preferred.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and appropriate use of the internet.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to be flexible in terms of scheduling. Professional manner and dress style.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


More Qualifications for Success

Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years old, in compliance with driving and operating vehicles/equipment.

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Airport or Aviation/Aerospace Management, Aviation/Aerospace Science, Business or Public Administration, or in a position with direct aviation relevance preferred.

Experience:
  • At least one (1) year of directly related experience.
  • Requires thorough familiarity with FAA Advisory Circulars, Airport Minimum Standards, Airport Rules and Regulations, and FEMA NIMS.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe or other applicable software is needed.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or the ability to obtain within two (2) weeks of employment, a valid Colorado Driver's License.
