Primary purpose:

The Air Compliance Specialist or Engineer (II, III, or Sr) for this position will be responsible for permitting, compliance, reporting and emission estimating to support field operations, business development and climate initiatives. The level at which this position is filled will be based on the successful candidate's experience.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Work in conjunction with other air permitting professionals to provide system wide support to operations to ensure and maintain compliance with applicable air requirements.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, budget and manage timely execution of air permits and related requirements accurately.
  • Complete emission calculations and inventories.
  • Conduct State and Federal regulatory applicability analyses.
  • Frequently interact with regulatory agencies, consultants and operations personnel.
  • Conduct on-site verification of oil and gas related equipment.
  • Track and manage air compliance tasks.
  • Submit air permits, notifications, and reports to appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with engineering, operational and managerial staff.
  • Provide technical support to operations staff to ensure compliance with the Clean Air Act and other related Federal and State air permitting requirements.
  • Foster communication with the workforce to strengthen the importance of EHS objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of company EHS policies and procedures and applicable regulatory agency regulations, standards and guidelines.
  • Address EHS matters by making recommendations based on knowledge of company practices and government regulations. If required, research information needs through corporate personnel, trade or government organizations.
  • Offer assistance and act as a resource/mentor to the Air Compliance Specialist position when needed.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years direct work experience in air permitting and compliance within the oil and gas industry may be considered as a substitute for a degree.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of six (6) years direct and active work experience with air permitting and compliance in the oil and gas industry.
  • Working knowledge of the Clean Air Act and State regulations where Tallgrass assets are operated.
  • Previous experience in successfully interacting with Federal, State and local agency officials related to air permitting authorizations.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • May be required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Chemical, Petroleum, Civil, etc. Engineering
  • Active State-registered Professional Engineering license
