Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, this position spends at least 70% of time in direct research activities. Administers, oversees, and leads research project(s) with primary responsibility for overseeing and ensuring the highest conduct of research including qualitative/quantitative data collection and analysis, responsible recruitment and enrollment of study participants, and dissemination of scientific results through conferences, publications, and other venues. Pursues external funding, writes and publishes manuscripts, and participates in peer review activities. Serves as the research lead on Denver Health operational initiatives to support Denver Health as a Learning Health System. This position will oversee the organization, development, writing, and submission of all stages of research from the initial idea to its specific project, through any needed grants or Institutional Review Board approval, to data collection and maintenance, and to the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, scientific presentations, posters for academic and clinical meetings, and coordination of relevant clinical and other staff's participation in the research.

Essential Functions:
  • 1. Maintains active awareness of local, regional, and national funding priorities. (10%)
  • 2. Identifies and pursues external sources for research funding, as appropriate, to support research programs and initiatives that relate to the mission of Denver Health through development and submission of grant proposals, contract applications, and similar mechanisms. (10%)
  • 3. Participates in timely presentation and publication of research and sponsored program results and findings. Publications must include peer-reviewed journals as well as non-traditional sources. Local, national, and international dissemination of results preferred. (10%)
  • 4. Manages and oversees ongoing research projects. (10%)
  • 5. Ensures research adheres to specified protocols, complies with Institutional Review Board policies, remains in budget and on schedule, meets research objectives and reporting requirements, and manages research team. (10%)
  • 6. Engages in direct mentorship of junior investigators, students, personnel and staff. (10%)
  • 7. Serves in advisory and educator capacity as needed to guide training and professional development for both investigators and research personnel. (10%)
  • 8. Builds and maintains good relationships with research and sponsored program collaborators and colleagues internally and externally at partnering institutions, networks, and funding agencies. (10%)
  • 9. Supervises research staff. (10%)
  • 10. Works collaboratively with SPARO. (5%)
  • 11. Maintains all research investigator training and requirements through eRA commons and COMIRB, including CITI trainings. (5%)

Education:
  • Doctorate Degree MD, PhD, PsyD, PharmD, EdD or other doctoral level degree in health related field, required. Required

Work Experience:
  • 4-6 years Five years of directly related experience, knowledge and competence with grant application, statistics, data analysis, program evaluation, and scientific writing, required. Required
