Job Title: School Engagement Navigator

FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Program Manager

Schedule: FT, Varies
Supervises: N/A

Closing Date: 4/11/2024

Rate of Pay: $26/hour

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

Function:

The school engagement navigator provides trauma-informed and strengths-based navigation to educational resources for families who are marginalized, low income or experiencing housing displacement. This position responds to referrals made to the program from a family micro-unit site operated by The Salvation Army. The navigator utilizes assessment tools and other web based or local resources to help participants identify local schools and other educational resources that suit the needs of the family. Focus areas for navigation include school exploration/assessment, logistics on transportation, parental care support, and linkage to after school resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive referrals, coordinate intake, and explain educational navigation services with potential program participants.
  • Provide initial assessment to families to identify potential barriers to education.
  • Be part of a multi-disciplinary team with excellent organizational skills and proven ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines to meet team goals.
  • Develop pathways for linking children and families to local educational resources.
  • Utilizes a strong understanding of a trauma-informed/strength-based approach and is aware of barriers specific to marginalized families.
  • Liaise with local schools and identify after school programs that support marginalized families.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up and support to program participants.

General Responsibilities:

  • Works in coordination with the micro-unit site to develop intake, assessment, and data pathways to ensure optimal data collection for reporting and outcomes.
  • Maintain high quality record keeping including statistics, outcome measures and end of month reporting.
  • Network with schools, community partners, and government agencies for referrals, resource connections.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualification and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human service-related field, required. Three years of experience in experience in human services, education, or related setting, may be accepted in lieu of bachelor's degree. High School Degree/GRE required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of local schools and educational resources preferred.
  • Service oriented mindset, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, staff, and schools.
  • Experience with daily, detailed data entry and reporting.
  • Strong computer skills including web-based databases, internet research and knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Successfully pass background check.
  • Valid CO driver's license and ability to pass The Salvation Army driving requirements.
