Job Description:

This position transports patients to and from the Operating Room, handles routine tasks related to patient care, organizes equipment, and provides general cleaning of surgical suites.

Posting Specifics

  • Pay Range (Updated): $18.29 - $22.57/hour (depending on experience)

  • Shift Details: Full-time, 40 hours/week. Monday - Friday, 3 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
  • Department: General Surgery, Good Samaritan Medical Center (Lafayette, Colorado).

Scope

1. Assists with transporting patients to the OR holding area, assisting with lifting, positioning, and/or transferring patients as indicated.
2. Consults with the Anesthesiologist and RN as appropriate to determine the equipment, set- up and supply requirements prior to the start of a procedure.
3. Processes post-surgery case-carts when assigned including but not limited to discarding sharps, emptying suction canisters, disseminating unused supplies and sending carts to Central Processing.
4. Set up Fluid Warmer, Invasive Lines and sterile supplies for Anesthesia procedures as requested and/or as appropriate for the type of anesthetic procedure to be performed.
5. Change anesthesia filter, gas cylinders and canisters and check and restock anesthesia machines between cases and at the completion of the scheduled cases.
6. Assist in opening sterile supplies under the supervision of a RN.
7. Assist with timely turnover of rooms to include cleaning room, removing trash and linen.
8. Transporting Blood products and specimens to and from blood bank to OR and lab/pathology.
9. Retrieves medication under direction of Licensed Independent Personnel.
10. Maintains traffic patterns and adheres to sanitation policies and procedures for Surgical and Anesthesia instruments and equipment.
11. Reviews surgery schedule daily to anticipate anesthesia needs for equipment in OR and LD.
12. Assists under direction of MDA of management of airway maintenance.
13. Collaborates with the RN and assists with documenting the use of equipment and supply consumption for accurate charging and inventory management.
14. Connects OR electrical equipment prior to surgical procedures and disconnects at completion of cases.
15. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
17. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
18. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Current BLS certification or completion within three months of employment is required


Preferred

  • Prior experience or education in a health related field or public service preferred

  • Experience in understanding and usage of computers, including Microsoft Word, as well as the ability to learn applications relevant to the position (All Intermountain jobs) Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required (If applicable) Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
