Job Summary

Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting for a Medical Director for our nationally renowned ACUTE Center of Excellence, a 30 bed medical stabilization unit for those people suffering from extreme forms of eating disorders. The Medical Director of ACUTE is responsible for the ongoing coordination and oversight of the medical and dietary services provided to eating disorders and malnutrition patients at Denver Health's ACUTE. This includes medical and ancillary service oversight, patient care, multidisciplinary staff meetings, faculty development, clinical outreach, marketing outreach and coordination and communication between ACUTE and referring persons and organizations. The position is provided with 50% protected time and effort for Department administration and outreach. The remainder of the role is dedicated to either direct clinical care or other funded work (research or other external funding). The position will report directly to Denver Health's Chief Medical Officer, with administrative reporting to ACUTE's Joint Management Committee (JMC), a 7 member committee comprised of members from DHHA and Eating Recovery Center. He/she will have an academic reporting relationship to the relevant University of Colorado School of Medicine Department Chair exclusively for academic advancement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure all patients being treated at ACUTE receive appropriate medical care. The Medical Director will take responsibility for ensuring all patients undergoing treatment meet clinical and insurance prerequisites according to existing clinical care standards and guidelines assisted by other physicians and ACUTE intake staff. Ensure the highest standard of care across Denver Health for all ACUTE eating disorders patients through the creation, review and implementation of evidence-based clinical care guidelines and policies surrounding the care of ACUTE's patients. Facilitate communication between Denver Health and the Eating Recovery Center. Represent ACUTE at local, state and national conferences, generally involving up to 1-5 4-5 days per month of travel time. Participate in other marketing meetings or events as needed. Oversee research and quality improvement initiatives for ACUTE patients. The Medical Director will be involved with performance of research and quality improvement projects to steadily increase the quality of care. Includes the review of monthly, quarterly, and annual data and quarterly M&M and QI conference. Monitor and optimize quality of clinical documentation in the medical record and. Achievement of a minimum of 100% of expected RVUs for relevant staff. Complete insurance reviews and appeals as needed such as peer to peer reviews and post discharge appeals. Support and oversight of medical and dietitians faculty and provide consultation with the team on difficult cases as indicated. Lead biweekly team huddles. The Medical Director shall meet with the CMO monthly to review quality of care, financial performance, academic productivity, and patient satisfaction for the Department. Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, management, and retention of medical and dietitian clinical staff on ACUTE. Responsible for the direct management of hospitalists, psychiatrists, registered dietitians, physical therapists and occupational therapists. For direct reports, perform an annual evaluation that provides feedback, guidance, and mentoring for staff reporting directly to him/her. Maintain a continuing review of the professional performance of all practitioners with clinical privileges on ACUTE. Manage academic initiatives on acute, responsible and accountable for the academic performance and productivity of medical faculty. Promote teamwork both within a department and between/among other departments in all aspects of academic and clinical functions. Clinical role model and leader of the department who acts collaboratively and makes decisions based on sound ethics and what will bring the greatest benefit to ACUTE and its patients and the overall Denver Health institution. Responsible for financial stewardship of the department. Authorizes expenditures from departmental funds consistent with all institutional guidelines and practices and in consultation with Executive Director of ACUTE. Ensure compliance with the Bylaws of the Medical Staff of Denver Health, including appropriate documentation of patient care and chart completion. Follow Denver Health policies and procedures. Maintains license and certifications required for the duties of the job. Other duties as assigned.


    Education:

    • MD or DO degree required.


    Work Experience:

    Completion of Accredited Residency Programs and fellowships for specialist, or equivalent internal medicine or family medicine. Equivalent training for those Physicians who are not U.S. residency trained.
