About the Position:

The Energy Program Manager reports to the Chief Development Officer, with primary responsibilities focused on managing a portfolio of activities to optimize and execute opportunities in data center energy supply, including: supporting site selection efforts and in partnership with utilities, communicate project needs and manage relationships across internal and external stakeholders, negotiate energy rate tariffs/special contracts, identify regulatory and policy opportunities for Cologix, and identify market conditions related to energy that are material to our business.

The candidate must have the ability to develop creative solutions that combine knowledge of regulated and deregulated power markets to deliver power to Cologix data centers. The candidate will need to understand the dynamics of energy markets and Cologix's own unique position in the energy sector. This necessitates that the candidate bring an innovative, collaborative presence to the role towards driving commercial execution to realize business goals, lower costs, and meet sustainability targets.

Typical Activities:

  • In this role, you will be a key contributor to Cologix's data center energy strategy, specifically supporting the energy infrastructure arrangements of our data centers through various stages of development including site selection, construction and operations
  • Your responsibilities will include: supporting the development of energy supply agreements, monitoring progress towards key development milestones, developing processes and building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external partners
  • You will work with our development and operations teams and be expected to think critically about Cologix's data center energy infrastructure
  • Support the creation and execution of overarching and site-specific energy supply strategies for Cologix's data centers
  • Communicate energy requirements to internal and external stakeholders
  • Negotiate energy infrastructure agreements
  • Manage the day-to-day details related to project due diligence, site development, construction, commercial agreements, construction power agreements and operational issues
  • Coordinate communication and deliverables between utility partners and internal stakeholders
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal partners including site selection, strategic engineering, data center design, construction, facility operations, legal and finance
  • Lead or assist on regulatory engagements with utilities, regulators, and related stakeholders important to data center infrastructure delivery, cost/range management and sustainability goals.
  • Lead data center energy supply contract development with utilities and third-party energy suppliers in support of Cologix's North American data center businesses.
  • Lead or assist in the analysis of energy industry trends, market policy and regulations to proactively identify opportunities to reduce cost, minimize risk and advance sustainability goals.
  • Partner with globally distributed internal stakeholders on site selection and energy project development, e.g., distributed energy, renewables.
  • Analyze category spend management opportunities, conducts research to understand the supply market and commodity trends, and deploy appropriate strategic plans and track KPI's
  • Serve as the ongoing owner for all of Cologix's renewable energy contract requirements to achieve RE100 status and champion the energy aspect of the Cologix sustainability goals to achieve RE100 status and champion the energy aspect of the Cologix sustainability goals
  • Create, maintain, update and track documents and data related to renewable energy projects
  • Track counterparty compliance with contract milestones and other project deliverables
  • Review invoicing and reporting for renewable energy project contracts, and ensure that RECs, costs and project performance are consistent with contract terms and conditions
  • Respond to counterparty inquires and manage contract amendments, collateral, force majeure claims and other issues as needed
  • Manage approval and signature process for contract documents after execution
  • Surface and resolve issues in ongoing contracts and project operations
  • Coordinate with legal counsel, finance, accounting, purchasing, accounts payable/receivable and other key stakeholders
  • Ability to travel through North America, as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned

What makes you a good fit: (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in a business, engineering, environmental, or energy related discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with a utility, energy project developer, design/consulting firm, construction firm or energy intensive consumer
  • Working knowledge of transmission, distribution and utility interconnection processes and electrical infrastructure
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Team player capable of adapting to ambiguous environments with cross-group collaboration and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills
  • Experience in managing and leading change initiatives involving significant impacts to organizations
  • Communications skills and experience developing and maintaining partnerships with suppliers and stakeholders
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel and other presentation tools

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • General understanding of data centers and cloud services
  • Experienced in data center construction
  • Understanding of the power industry, with specific focus on the mechanics of power markets
  • Experience managing a portfolio of renewable energy contracts, especially wind and solar energy supply contracts
  • MBA/post-graduate degree in relevant fields (energy or environmental science) a plus, though experience in consulting and power/energy industries may substitute for relevant graduate education in this regard
  • A strong candidate will have the ability to master contract details, understand impacts of key provisions, evaluate risks, resolve disputes and propose creative solutions
  • Experience drafting official correspondence between counterparties
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting energy generation data, virtual PPAs, green tariffs, and wholesale energy market data

Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. This position will also be eligible for an annual bonus.

Salary Range
$150,000-$180,000 USD
