Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, is responsible for coding/ programming to produce and validate analysis datasets and other data outputs according to department standards. Builds electronic data collection instruments. Ensures project documentation is up-to-date and adheres to department standards. Implements process improvement solutions that promote quality and statistical and staffing efficiency. Implements quality checks, quality control measures, and monitoring programs related to data accuracy and appropriateness. Prepares and coordinates data for documentation, status reports, briefings, and information inquiries. Collaborates with internal functional teams and external departments related to assignments.

Essential Functions:
  • Imports/ Exports data from moderately complex sources and systems. (10%)
  • Conducts basic and intermediate programming/coding in standard analytical software packages to create, clean, and validate analysis datasets, automated processes, macros, and other data output. (10%)
  • Develops electronic data collection instruments considering data integrity principles and best practices. (10%)
  • Implements quality checks, quality control measures, and monitoring programs related to data accuracy and appropriateness with direction of management and/ or senior staff for areas/ applications of responsibility. (10%)
  • Effectively gathers information and assesses data management requests for feasibility, scalability, and risks in collaboration with internal with internal and external partners. (10%)
  • Fulfills data management requirements throughout project lifecycle for moderate complexity and/ or medium scope initiatives. (5%)
  • In consultation with management, and/ or senior staff, implements standard coding and re-usable coding packages where appropriate to enhance regulatory compliance, accuracy, and efficiency according to department goals. (5%)
  • Writes data management project documentation where appropriate including, but not limited to: project scope, data/ technical requirements, recommended data management plan, data flow diagram, test scripts, traceability matrix, and RACI matrix, and implements solution aligned with data stewardship principles. (5%)
  • Initiates and implements process improvement initiatives that promote data quality, and both statistical and staffing efficiency. (5%)
  • Assist with the administration of the research application including, but not limited to setting up end-user accounts and executing test scripts for periodic application updates. (5%)
  • Contributes to tracking and achieving overall team and strategic metrics according to defined goals. (5%)
  • Actively identifies and resolves system and procedural problems quickly and communicates to management and/or affected users/ team members. (5%)
  • Maintains general documentation to support audit preparedness, Cornerstone training verification, feedback forms for retraining, reference documents, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs). (5%)
  • Acts as a backup to other data management staff, and ensures there is a backup that is capable and trained on covering duties while absent. Collaborates with internal and external multidisciplinary teams. (5%)
  • Develops and facilitates formal and informal presentations and training to internal audiences. (5%)

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years three years relevant experience Required or
  • 4-6 years six years relevant experience Required or
  • 7-9 years nine years relevant experience Required and
  • Relevant experience is defined as: experience designing/developing data management solutions in the fields of research, healthcare, data management, data cleaning, and/ or application development. Required

Licenses:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability to understand and/ or learn database schemas, design, and dictionaries.
    • Ability to write basic and intermediate data querying in programs such as SAS or SQL preferred; experience with other programs may be acceptable.
    • Strong understanding of standard coding syntax and logic.
    • Ability to validate, troubleshoot, and debug the coding written by other staff.
    • Intermediate critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to effectively prioritize and fulfill multiple, dynamic, and concurrent projects, and meet deadlines with a moderate degree of autonomy.
    • Exemplary organizational skills with a strong focus on detail and quality.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to summarize detailed information in an organized and concise manner.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, while also working efficiently and independently.
    • Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
    • Strong focus on developing both technical and professional skills.
    • Languages: Querying and coding in SQL, SAS, R, Python or a similar language preferred

    • Software and technology:

      Intermediate Microsoft Office standard suite proficiency preferred including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint

      Relational database experience preferred
