Job Summary
Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms and breast ultrasounds at a technical level not requiring constant supervision but at the direction of a radiologist. Performs a variety of technical imaging procedures that entail application of ionizing radiation; therefore, prudent judgment, strong technical skills, and a commitment to patient safety are considered requisite professional characteristics for individuals assuming the position as a senior mammography technologist. Another secondary component of this job involves assisting the radiologist in performing interventional breast procedures and breast ultrasound examinations in order to contribute to a diagnosis.

Mammography Technologist II: Level II is intended for candidates with 3+ years of experience with required breast ultrasound certification & current clinical competency, as well as deep familiarity with all radiography imaging equipment used at Denver Health. Denver Health is invested in its team members, and we will help you get here if you do not yet qualify! On the job training is available to qualify for this level.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms following appropriate assessment by clinicians. (15%)

  • Performs ultrasound imaging studies in a timely manner according to physicians' orders, established protocols, and/or specific radiologist's directions. (15%)

  • Assists radiologists during interventional procedures, (breast biopsies, needle localizations). Such assistance may include procedures preparation, post-procedural patient care to include, but not limited to, breast compression, retrieval of ice, and delivery of biopsy specimen to laboratory. (15%)

  • Ensures patient safety, comfort, and personal dignity by following appropriate patient care guidelines to include use of 2 patient identifiers. (15%)

  • Operates, on a day-to-day basis, PACS applications to include: archiving activities; image auto-routing; and prefetching tasks; image quality assurance and other related activities. (15%)

  • Assists in the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and performing inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing general radiographic examinations. (10%)

  • Ensures that the Mammography department is appropriately equipped and maintained in a clean, safe, and hazard-free manner. (10%)

  • Attends and participates in departmental huddles, general intradepartmental meetings, and Radiology's inservices. (5%)


Education:

  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Required


Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years in performing radiographic procedures Required

  • 1-3 years professional work experience in performing Mammography studies Required


Licenses:

  • RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in how to operate digital mammography equipment and related technology.

  • Competency in the performance of screening/diagnostic mammograms as well as interventional breast procedures.

  • Knowledge in how to operate breast ultrasound equipment and related technology.

  • Knowledge of how to address age-specific care needs of patients.

  • Effective interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and collaborations.

  • Competency in interpreting physician order requests for screening/diagnostic breast examinations.

  • Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.

  • Ability to consistently produce quality images related to the breast region.
