Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL-designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations.
Sierra Space's Orbital Mission and Services (OMS) division focuses on the design, build, and operations of small satellites in support of commercial services and national security space and offers two work locations: Louisville, Colorado and Centennial, Colorado.
As a Senior Mission Software Architect, you will play a pivotal role in defining mission parameters and deriving mission requirements for innovative spacecraft development. You will provide mission-oriented perspectives throughout the design lifecycle and assess key mission performance attributes to ensure alignment with customer objectives.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for space protection and systems development, and the ability to understand and champion a mission viewpoint throughout the development process.
Must-haves:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or other related discipline and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience
- Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of required education
- Thorough understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
- An active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance with SCI and SAP eligibility required
Preferred:
- Master's degree or higher in a related field of study.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, and Agile Development.
- Progressive experience in software development and software architecture including both subsystem and system level development.
- Experience in architecting spacecraft flight software.
- Experience with programming and debugging, SW Unit Test / SW Rqmts Verification, and basic Linux.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Git, and Jenkins.
- Experience participating in Software Engineering activities through successful completion of design milestones such as System Requirements Reviews (SRRs), System Functional Reviews (SFRs), and Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews (PDRs and CDRs).
- Experience across all phases of the program development lifecycle, from capture through design, implementation, and test.
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
- Motivated self-starter with a curiosity and desire to learn.
- Critical thinker who is not afraid to acknowledge gaps and ask questions early.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience with flight software, discrete time simulation, software models, and hardware communication protocols (MIL-STD-1553, RS-422/485, etc).
- Ability to trade mission attributes to achieve design to cost and schedule constraints while maintaining mission objectives.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with technical and specialty subject matter expert engineers.
- Excellent collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams to solve complex problems in a rapid development environment.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
This position requires current/active Top Secret with SCI eligibility and current full-scope polygraph U.S. Security Clearance. Estimated Starting Salary Range:
$138,634.92 - $207,952.37Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
