Summary:

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing transmission line design engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include preparing design documents for high-voltage transmission and distribution lines in the electric utility and renewable energy sectors. Tasks may include developing wood and steel pole specifications, construction and materials specifications, and drilled pier foundation design and embedment depth calculations, as well as reviewing and producing design drawings, including plan and profiles, framing, and assembly. The work may involve short-term out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited college or university

  • At least one year of relevant experience with electric transmission line design voltages in the range of 69 to 345kv

  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD software suite required

  • Relevant work experience as described above

  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the tasks described above

  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office

  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative

  • A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with analyzing lattice steel towers and other transmission structure foundations

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microstation

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Denver, Fort Collins or Wheat Ridge, Colorado; Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids, Michigan; or Duluth, Hibbing, or Minneapolis, Minnesota; or Salt Lake City, Utah; or Bismarck, North Dakota, offices.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $85,000-$120,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
