Electrical engineers at Sierra Space research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and design new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle from analog and digital electronic circuit card assemblies to fully integrated systems.

Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL-designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations.

Sierra Space is seeking a candidate with a strong background in VHDL, Digital Design, and System Integration. In this role, you will define the requirements for avionics subsystems, design algorithms that support avionics systems, execute VHDL to build complex reliable systems for spaceflight, and verify those designs.

This position is initially focused on Power Distribution for our SDA contract; you may be responsible for supporting additional programs at times, with potential future opportunities to expand you knowledge and experience in space flight design, development, manufacturing, or program management.

What you will do:

  • Day to day in this position you will interact with development engineers, systems engineers, program managers, and other team members to build solutions to complex engineering problems facing advanced spaceflight systems.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in System Engineering or related discipline and typically ten (10) or more years of relevant experience; higher education may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design & development teams


Preferred:

  • Architect complex FPGA and embedded solutions, demonstrating mastery of VHDL and advanced design techniques.
  • Analyze and understand complex system requirements and translate them into efficient and optimized embedded architectures and designs.
  • Collaborate with digital board designers to ensure successful integration of FPGA designs onto PCBs and hardware platforms.
  • Mastery of FPGA design flow including RTL design, verification, logic synthesis, prototyping, timing analysis, and lab debug
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.
  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
  • Design and optimize high-performance digital circuits and systems using VHDL/Verilog while adhering to industry best practices and digital design methodologies.
  • ModelSim/Questa or equivalent logic simulation tools Libero (Microsemi), Quartus (Intel), Vivado (Xilinx) FPGA development tools, Simulink, GIT, and JIRA.
  • Verify designs utilizing self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests, while tracking functional and code coverage.
  • Create complete documentation including requirements, verification plan, and user's guides.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:

$120,552.10 - $180,828.15

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
