The Department of Surgery, Division of Urology at Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting a Chief of Urology.This position emphasizes patient access, high quality surgical care, housestaff and fellow training, and clinical research. The DH program is fully integrated with the Division of Urology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (UCSOM), including utilization of resident staff, clinical responsibilities and research. The Division of Urology at Denver Health is a dynamic group of five providers committed to providing world class urologic care to an urban underserved patient population regardless of ability to pay.

Denver Health is considered a national model of an integrated urban safety net health care system that includes a 525 bed acute care hospital, with new adult and pediatric emergency departments, the 911 paramedic system, 10 community health centers, 18 school-based clinics, the public health department, the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center, a 100 bed non-medical detoxification center, a dedicated psychiatric emergency service, correctional care facilities, the Rocky Mountain Center for the Medical response to Terrorism, Mass Casualties and Epidemics, and an HMO. The Denver Health Rocky Mountain Regional Trauma Center has been recognized as a preeminent Level I Trauma Center, with one of the best trauma survival rates in the country.

The Chief of Urology will have oversight of all care delivered by the Division of Urology at Denver Health and will provide overall strategic leadership of the Division in conjunction with the Department of Surgery leadership. They will have responsibility for strategic planning, clinical services, professional performance, business performance, medical education, and physician practice as well as assisting with continued support of a research program. Developing relationships with key internal stakeholders is of particular importance, including interventional radiology and uro-gynecology, in the interest of advancing multidisciplinary care of patients with urologic diseases. Advancing a culture of excellence in urology, the Chief will be dedicated to performance expectations, which provide for the highest quality patient care and consistency in clinical care standards, driven by patient safety requirements and clinical outcomes monitoring. He/she will be responsible for the growth and advancement of research, scholarly activity and teaching excellence of the Division continuing to raise the bar on medical student and resident education and developing a stronger commitment to departmental research efforts.

Education

* MD/DO (Required) Education: Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and completed Urology Accredited Residency Program and fellowships for specialist, or equivalent. Equivalent training for those Physicians who are not U.S. residency trained. New finishing residents generally are not expected to be Board Certified but should be Board Certified within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the office of Medical Administration.


Credentials

* Physician (Required) Certificate/License/Registration: Medical license to practice in State of Colorado. All physicians must be board certified/board eligible.

* Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) from American Heart Association (Required)

Essential Functions:

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat patient conditions and disorders of the genitourinary organs and tracts. (20%)
  • Document and review patients' histories. (15%)
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. (15%)
  • Use specialized equipment, such as X-rays, fluoroscopes, and catheters. (15%)
  • Perform abdominal, pelvic, or retroperitoneal surgeries when necessary. (10%)
  • Treat lower urinary tract dysfunctions. (5%)
  • Prescribe and administer antibiotics, antiseptics, or compresses to treat infections or injuries. (5%)
  • Prescribe medications for patients with erectile dysfunction, infertility, or ejaculation problems. (5%)
  • Provide Urology consultations or referring patients to specialists. (5%)
  • Direct nurses, residents, or other staff. (5%)


Education:

  • Doctorate Degree Required


Work Experience:

Ideally 4-6 years in a leadership role preferred. Emerging leaders in clinical care, research or education are encouraged to apply.


    Licenses:

    • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
    • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
    • Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
