Job Title: Divisional Director of Finance

FLSA Status: Full Time - exempt
Reports to: Divisional Secretary for Business

Schedule: FT/E, Monday-Friday
Supervises: Finance Department Staff

Rate of Pay: $137,654-$144,539

Closing Date: 3/21/2024

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Divisional Secretary for Business (DSB). the Divisional Finance Director (DFD) oversees the financial affairs and accounting of The Salvation Army Intermountain Division. The DFD gives leadership and supervision to the Finance Department and is responsible for accounting, planning, and reporting for the corps units within the Intermountain Division. The DFD is a member of the leadership team and will help to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The DFD is the assets custodian of the Division and is responsible for all aspects of financial management and accounting including but not limited to:

  • Acts as an advisor to the Divisional Commander and others in management on matters of fiscal policy and management of the division.
  • Keeps management apprised of financial, personnel and other situations that will contribute to valid management decisions.
  • Responsible for the oversight of management reporting including financial statements, audits, and budgets.
  • Provides oversight of accounting procedures throughout the division to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, FASB requirements, and Salvation Army policy to ensure accuracy, validity, and consistency of accounting practices.
  • Oversees all accounting within the division internal bookkeeping systems, fiscal controls, and management systems.
  • As a member of Command Finance Council (CFC). will provide interpretation of financial data and procedures.
  • Functions as the Secretary for CFC.
  • Present items pe1taining to requisitions, budgets, and audits for review by CFC.
  • Personally direct the physical and electronic recording of the minutes immediately following the Council meetings.
  • Provides oversight of the development of reports that will communicate financial summaries in a valid but easily understood format for non-financial managers.
  • Develops and recommends appropriate fiscal operating changes as needed and provides account analysis and maintenance procedures in accordance with stated policies and procedures and compliance with the requirements of funding sources.
  • Works with field units to resolve accounting problems and provide training of field unit personnel in a variety of aspects of accounting.
  • Maintains a relationship with external and internal auditors, including presentation of audits and the authorization of audit fees and costs.
  • Prepares allocation schedules for the Denver Metro units. This includes but is not limited to endowment earnings, Special Appeals and other fund-raising revenue. Submit to CFC for approval as a part of the annual budget process.
  • Conducts or assists with internal audits as needed.
  • Act as the liaison and secretary for the Denver Metro Advisory Board Finance Committee. Attend Executive Committee and Advisory Board meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience

  • BA degree in accounting or equivalent required, Mater's Degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of accountancy or finance experience, with at least 5 years of experience in non-profits.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Strong business and financial acumen and ability to present issues clearly and concisely.
  • Financial statement analysis experience.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to multitask to meet competing deadlines.
  • Experience in forecasting and modeling and strong knowledge of non-profit performance and metrics.
  • Experience in performing complex analysis of financial issues.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
