Job Overview

The Lead Medical Technologist Precision Diagnostics directs day-to-day activities within the laboratory section and serves as a primary resource for technical and clinical expertise in the lab section. Oversight of and responsible for performing laboratory testing and procedures in any/all areas of the laboratory and reporting timely accurate test results; participates in laboratory quality assurance activities with advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements.

These positions will be responsible for wet lab technical operations over NGS based methodologies and the operations over the specimen processing, triage or non NGS based technical assays within the laboratory. The technical leads will serve as the subject matter experts in the given domain and act as training expert and be the initial troubleshooting and oversight of daily operations within the given area.

Department: Precision Diagnostics (PDX Lab)
Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Day, 7:30am-6pm, 4-10's. Rotating Sundays and occasional holiday coverage.
Qualifications
  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • EXPERIENCE - Four years clinical laboratory experience required.
    • Four (4) years of previous experience in molecular diagnostics is preferred
  • EQUIVALENCY - Meeting one of the other requirements set by the ASCP Board of Certification may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) - Medical Technologist/Scientist Certification ASCP or equivalent

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Directs the day to day operations of the laboratory section(s) and assists in the supervision of the staff; serves as a liaison with leadership.
  • Functions as a primary resource for technical and clinical expertise in lab section and a clinical consultant to care providers, involving manager/supervisor, pathologist or medical director when indicated.
  • Responsible for reporting accurate results, evaluating results for clinical significance and validity, and for recognition of atypical/abnormal results requiring additional follow up.
  • Ensures quality control is acceptable and instrumentation is functioning and maintained within defined tolerance limits and documentation is completed.
  • Consciously works to minimize errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors in a timely manner.
  • Performs all laboratory functions according to standard operating procedures and guidelines established by regulatory agencies, including participation in proficiency testing.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and assay performance when results are questionable.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of current laboratory regulations and quality indicators and actively participate in accreditation readiness and laboratory inspections.
  • Teaches, trains and/or mentors new employees, students and other healthcare professionals according to standard operating procedures.
  • Responsible for completing quality assurance activities such as maintenance, statistics, calibration verification and quality control review.
  • Participates in procedure review and writing.
  • Performs validations, verifications and implementation of new assays.
  • Participates in competency assessment.
  • Responsible for the coordination and/or oversight of section specific programs/projects/initiatives as defined by leadership.
  • May procure blood from patients by venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick to obtain blood samples for analysis following age-specific guidelines.

SCOPE AND LEVEL

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $68,895.30 to $103,342.95
Hourly Salary Range: $33.12 to $49.68
