Job Summary


Under general supervision, provides implementation and maintenance support of the Denver Health network and VoIP environments, including the service offerings to integrate voice, video and data. Develops and implements scalable network and VoIP solutions for clinical and campus environments including: Network Management solutions, firewall support, Cisco Communications Manager support, LAN/WAN infrastructure redesign and/or expansion of existing Ethernet and/or Metro Ethernet networks. Perform tuning tasks associated with network and VoIP infrastructure ensuring application reliability in a local and wide area environment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting software and/or hardware problems for network and VoIP based systems, installation and project implementation, and maintenance of network and VoIP documentation, as well as interacting with 3rd party vendors.

This position will have on-call rotations once per month and does have on-site requirements.

Essential Functions:

Maintains the integrity and reliability of the LAN/WAN infrastructure (20%)

  • Responsible for the on-going maintenance of the Denver Health LAN/WAN environment and related sub-networking environments to ensure a continuous, smooth, and seamless operation.
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs of LAN/WAN hardware and configuration related problems.
  • Assist Network Engineers in the design and implementation of the Denver Health network environment.
  • Tracks application performance across the network and alerts management in a timely manner when alerts are received.
  • Takes appropriate action to minimize network disruption/downtime and confers with senior staff members or management before making changes in crisis situations.

Installation and Testing of Network hardware and software (20%)

  • Responsible for testing, prototyping and installation of new and upgraded network system, hardware and software including routing and switching.
  • Responsible for smooth installation of network hardware and software components and the continued integrity of the network operating environment with minimal impact on the end user community.
  • Responsible for release management, change management and problem reporting.

Documentation, policies and procedures

  • Provide timely systems and network documentation as required by supervisor and senior management.
  • Supports and upholds established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objective, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control, and codes.

Local and Wide Area Network Security (15%)

  • Assist Network Engineers in the design and implementation of an overall network security strategy. Provide remote dial access security administration functions.
  • Adheres to security guidelines/policies as outlined by Denver Health senior management.
  • Monitors security audit reports and reports security violation to senior management as required by Denver Health Policy.
  • Supports internet firewall hardware and software. Provides audit reporting as necessary to senior management as to unauthorized access attempts and policy violations.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Competencies (15%)

  • Coordination and Communication
  • Coordinates with end user community and other Network Services sections to produce, develop, and maintain LAN operations, with minimal impact on the end user community.
  • Coordinates with section manager and/or Manager of Network Services daily activities and assigned project status.
  • Uses appropriate communication methods to support on-going goals and objectives of the department.
  • Provides effective communications about network outages and problems to senior staff members, and keeps entire group updated as to on-going outage status.

Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (10%)

Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care. (5%)


Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required


Work Experience:

  • Three years of technical experience in LAN/WAN and VoIP infrastructure management required and
  • A minimum of one year of Health Care Industry experience Required
  • Five years of technical experience in LAN/WAN and VoIP infrastructure management without a technical degree

    Licenses:

    • CCNA Highly Preferred (not required)

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Switching, Routing, VPN, Firewall, VoIP, Wireless, Cisco IOS, Data Center, Network Management Software, Cisco Communications Manager, Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco UCCX, MGCP, SIP, Internet and vendor circuits/provisioning.
    • Virtualization; Active Directory; Network Concepts; DHCP server/client; DNS; VLANs; Wireless Security.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to clearly explain concepts and problems to employees and clients in non-technical terms.
