The Maintenance Apprentice, under immediate supervision of a certificated technician, learns and becomes competent in the testing, adjusting and repairing, and other general tasks related to the maintenance and repair of aircraft systems and components on a variety of airframes in a safe and clean work environment according to manufacturer's specifications, Duncan Aviation approved procedures, and customer specifications. In addition to performing maintenance on aircraft and documenting on the job experience, the Maintenance Apprentice will work towards obtaining their Airframe and or Powerplant certificate by participating in: off-hours self-study of provided materials, regular attendance of scheduled classes, completion of practice exams with progressively improving scores, and completion of Career Progress Checklist.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Under the supervision and training of certificated technicians, assists in high quality inspections, servicing, repair, and maintenance of airframe or engine systems and components on a variety of aircraft using proper hand tools in a timely, clean, safe, and professional manner. Order general parts as needed.
  1. With training, assistance, and supervision, prepares various documents for record keeping purposes, as required by Company policy and FAA regulations (i.e. turnovers, removal sheets, W.O. Sheets, personal training log).
  1. With assistance and training, locates and uses appropriate technical data and follows verbal instructions when accomplishing assigned maintenance tasks.
  1. Maintain acceptable attendance and testing scores in Apprentice Program course work.
  2. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Job Specific Requirements

  • Licenses/Certificates: Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; respirator fit qualified; man lift qualified; tool inventory per department tool list required
  • Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance required
  • Physical: Routinely lifts up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs; reads small print; hears sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates products, materials and fumes associated with component maintenance; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and sitting. Tolerates working in confines spaces and heights above four feet.
  • Environmental: Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and in noisy environments

Education and Experience

Maintenance Apprentice I:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Enrollment in Duncan Aviation's DOL approved Airframe or Engine Apprentice Program required

Maintenance Apprentice II:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Two years aircraft maintenance related experience required
  • Enrollment in Duncan Aviation's DOL approved Airframe or Engine Apprentice Program required

Maintenance Apprentice III:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Five years aircraft maintenance experience required
  • Enrollment in Duncan Aviation's DOL approved Airframe or Engine Apprentice Program required
