Job Summary

The Program Coordinator (Residency) under the direction and supervision of the Residency Program Directors is responsible for assisting in the administration of the residency program as outlined in the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and American Dental Association, the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) Program Requirements. The Residency Coordinator provides administrative support and is a key knowledge resource for the to the General Practice Residency, Pediatric Dental Residency, and the Oral Maxillofacial Residency Program Directors, as well as the respective program faculty, Chief Residents, residents, and Interns. The Residency Coordinator additionally will interact with faculty, residents, institutional and regulatory administrative offices as directed by the Program Directors. Serve as liaison with other departments and affiliated institutions.

Essential Functions:
  • Help Implement and evaluate daily lesson plans for students to include scheduled activities and materials of modules (15%)
  • Helps plan instruction to achieve specific objectives based upon student need and established curriculum. (15%)
  • Monitor the attendance of students in the program and coordinate with Program Director when absences occur two days in a row. Prepare attendance reports weekly for the Program Director. (10%)
  • Meet with the Program Director to review student success rates and implement plan to reduce student withdrawals. Meet with students to encourage them to stay in the program. Maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught in the program. (10%)
  • Helps to maintain student grades in accordance with established policies. Prepare final grades at the end of each module to update student records and transcripts (5%)
  • Acts as a resource to students for clinical, clerical, operational and administrative questions. (5%)
  • Help evaluate the performance of students regarding achievements in curriculum and activities and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs. (5%)
  • Help Program Director arrange and coordinate guest speakers, community service field trips, and visits to clinics and dental offices. (5%)
  • Helps Prepare lectures and practical demonstrations for students in class and individually. (5%)
  • Assist and advise student with Dental Assistant program curriculum. (5%)
  • May assist with the inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment. (5%)
  • Monitor students in the laboratory. Demonstrate and assist students with lab procedures and ensure safety precautions are adhered to. (5%)
  • May assist and coordinate schedules for Dental Assistant students. (5%)
  • Mentors students to help achieve professional growth and development. (5%)
  • Remains current on all job-related knowledge, skills and continuing education. (0%)

Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:
  • 4-6 years A minimum of Five (5) years of job-related training and experience for those instructors who are not graduates from an accredited Dental Assistant program. Required and
  • 4-6 years Five (5) years occupational (i.e., practical) experience in Dental Assisting.. Required

Licenses:
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to perform duties of a Dental Assistant.
  • Knowledge of registration process, scheduling, fee schedule and insurance plans.
  • Ability to teach chairside and how to assist a dentist in the examination & treatment of Pedodontics, Endodontics, Prosthetics, Oral Surgery, & other dental procedures.
  • Ability to teach students how seats patients, reviews Health History, instruct on how to take x-rays with good visibility, dental set-up, special treatment procedures, organizes and has operatory stocked with needed dental instruments & materials
  • Ability to be in Dental clinics when Dental Assistant students are present in the clinics
  • Ability to Instruct the students with the standards on sterilization for all dental instruments, handpieces, and counter-tops, & operatory's
  • Ability to Instruct the students with the care for Dental Equipment according to manufactures directions.
  • Ability to teach the guidelines of hospital policy for infection control.
  • Ability to Instruct students on how to schedule patients for re-visit appointments.
  • Ability to Instruct students on how to maintain patient records and indicates the type of work done.
  • Ability to Instruct students on how to review patient record to determine the instruments needed by the Dentist.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competence using the current electronic medical record system for documentation, report management, and patient access.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
