Position Description

Pay: $55k-$58k

Work Schedule: M-F, 8am - 4:30pm, some evenings, some weekends

OBJECTIVE:

The ESL instructor will provide instruction/guidance to Excel Center teachers and staff as well as students as deemed appropriate and will be responsible for planning, teaching, and evaluating assigned classes in accordance with the ESL curriculum for all classes as needed. The Excel Center model focuses on Adult Learners/22 years old and up who have not earned their High School Diploma. This is a key role in assisting students to gain proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing to improve skills and overall student retention. The incumbent will be trained in administrative duties along with curriculum implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

* Uses placement tests to evaluate student ability level and group accordingly. Provide feedback to students based on assessments.

* Perform ongoing and summative assessments of students aligned with the provided curriculum.

* Plan and deliver instruction utilizing the curriculum differentiating for the diverse needs of each student (class size: 10-20 students).

* Utilize technology to accommodate and support students' comprehension.

* Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students.

* Maintain student class records.

* Maintain a comfortable classroom environment conducive to learning.

* Operate the Goodwill Interpreter/Translation Request system as needed.

* Assist in gathering and reporting data for reporting requirements.

* Act as an ambassador for Goodwill and Goodwill's ESL Programs as well as other related programs.

* Maintain all ESL resources, materials, and files in excellent condition.

* Participation in the employee evaluation process (i.e., classroom observations and follow-up discussions).

* Collaborate with other educational institutions and partners to enhance the Excel Center offerings.

* Conduct class group activities that assist with material retention.

* Work closely with leadership and instructional staff to support student success.

* Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree and Credential Requirements: ESL Teaching Certificate. Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field or three years of related experience in the same or similar capacity.

Customer Service: Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services; acts with customers in mind; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.

Communication Skills: Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend others' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world. Must have the ability to network with community partners and speak to large audiences. Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Organizational Aptitude: Plans and attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing multiple tasks in an organized and timely fashion. Exhibits careful attention to detail and follow-through.

Technical Knowledge: Has working knowledge of G Suite and MS Office, as well as student Information Systems.

Informed Decision-Making: Identifies and comprehends issues, problems, and opportunities; compares data from different sources to draw conclusions; uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; takes action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.

Information Monitoring/Reporting/Design: Creates, collects, reviews, and maintains information to manage or improve the achievement of learning goals.

Adaptability: Maintains effectiveness when experiencing shifts in priorities; adjusts effectively while maintaining a positive learning environment.
