AES Clean Energy is seeking an expert Senior Civil Engineer to join the Civil Engineering Department in supporting Business Development (BD), Development Engineering Department (Dev Eng), Execution Engineering, and Construction for design development, permitting and construction of wind, photovoltaic (PV) and grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in coordination with the AES Clean Energy teams.

The Senior Civil Execution Engineer will be responsible for assisting the Civil Development Engineers with late stage civil design 30% plans and leading all aspects of project geotechnical report reviews with Civil Geotech domain experts (SME), stormwater design development, Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) entitlements, EPC detailed civil design reviews, and construction requests for information completion. Construction stormwater and land use permitting support for wind, solar PV and BESS projects, construction, and quality control and assurance reviews will also be a part of their daily routine.

This role will support a larger development and execution project team and serves as the SME for technical and engineering matters related to civil engineering design, stormwater management, and construction solution. This position requires the candidate to have an extensive knowledge of the regulatory, permitting, and construction process for land development projects. Excellent communication, task management and planning skills needed, in addition to technical breadth is expected.

The successful candidate will have a depth of experience in the design, engineering and analysis of civil plans and systems from 5-500 acres. Experience with wind, PV and BESS ranging from 500 kW to 200 MW is preferable.

The role will require the review of information related to all practical elements of wind, PV, and BESS design. The successful applicant, while not an expert, will become comfortable with high-level review of all elements of practical wind, BESS, and PV system design.

The position is based out of our primary office of Louisville, CO, but is considered a hybrid position and may include up to 25% travel to project locations and partner offices. Working this hybrid position will require being in close proximity to a regional airport.

Key Responsibilities

Civil, Geotechnical and stormwater design Scope of Work and specifications development

Perform preliminary studies of infiltration, stormwater work, and cut/fill estimates assignments in EPC stages of development [60%, 90%, issue for permit (IFP), and issue for construction (IFC)]

Seek and evaluate proposals for engineering and construction services for project civil works

Perform preliminary site visits to identify site development and construction risks

Coordinate with engineering consultants to develop IFP and IFC civil drawings and support material from 60% and 90% drawings

Review and comment on design work provided by consultants and contractors

Respond to contractor RFIs during course of construction

Perform QA/QC field inspections during construction and punch list development

Perform Job Safety Assessments and Safety Walks to identify job-site hazards

Work closely with construction, contractors, and project engineers to manage project timelines

Review with Senior Civil Development Engineer the late stage civil designs and layouts for projects in development (30%)

Complete ALTA Survey review for projects in progress.

Assist in preparation of preliminary documents for permitting and stormwater plans

Coordinate with vendors to identify specifications and scopes of work

Draft specifications and design standards for civil works, construction stormwater, and post stormwater management plans

Familiarity with regional AHJ entitlements requirements and standards

Stormwater and detention design optimization to improve site reliability and reduce cost

Provide site grading recommendations based on proposed design elements and equipment standards for project sites

Confirm civil engineering reports and studies are complete and incorporated in the project IFP and IFC documents

Collaborate with Asset Management team to fix existing projects or develop repair and remediation plans

Design solutions for repairs and modifications to systems, and "close the gap" between various AES subcontractors and vendors where needed

Improve and develop processes for the execution of safe, quality, and high-performance projects

Mentor and educate team on changing trends in technology, standard processes, and safety

Participate in AES CE's growth planning process by contributing to process improvement task forces and other strategic planning activities

Skills and Qualifications

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or similar technical field

15+ years professional experience in civil engineering design, land development, construction, and stormwater analysis

Proficiency in real-world civil, geotechnical, and stormwater management design including cut/fill analysis, stormwater flow analysis and road design

Field experience on large civil projects, including fixing issues, quality evaluation, and construction support

Experience with Civil Engineering standards and codes in the US

Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel

"Plus" Qualifications

PE qualifications, or on track to become qualified

Master's degree in Civil Engineering

+2 years of experience with PV and Battery Energy Storage System design and interconnection

Experience with Civil 3D or other sophisticated modeling tools

Spanish language skills

OSHA 10-hr or comparable job-site safety certification

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $115.000 and $144.500/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
