The Senior Counsel provides leadership on a Legal Services team, may supervise legal caregivers, and is accountable for a portfolio of legal work within that team. This position also provides legal advice and counsel on special matters assigned by a Deputy Chief Legal Officer, an Associate Chief Legal Officer, or a Region General Counsel.

This is an exempt, full-time position located in the Front Range of Colorado (Denver Metro area). To show our commitment to you and assist with your transition into our organization, we may offer a sign-on and relocation bonus when applicable.

With this position, you are eligible to participate in an annual pay-for-performance opportunity ("AP4P"). This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Intermountain Health Board-approved goals.

As a Sr. Counsel - Operations, you will:

  • Provide advanced level legal counsel, advice, and management to the Intermountain Operations team and other enterprise-level shared services.

  • Provide advanced level legal counsel, advice, and management on high-profile regulatory, operations, medical staff matters, governance and strategy, as well as negotiate service agreements, physician and administrative employment agreements, and manage and implement operating agreements.

  • Identify, manage, and mitigate legal risks relating to operations and regional business portfolios.

  • Develop and deliver legal training on regulatory and legal risks, along with mitigation strategies.

  • Provide advanced level legal advice and counsel on a variety of subjects including federal and state fraud and abuse laws, corporate governance issues, general corporate matters, strategic partnerships and affiliations, hospital policies and procedures, and medical staff matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and have a license to practice law in a state where Intermountain is located or be willing to obtain such licensure within 12 months of hire date. Education is verified.

  • Significant experience or demonstrated ability in a role requiring excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders in an organization (management, senior attorneys, physicians, compliance, hospital administrators, etc.).

  • Significant experience or demonstrated ability in a role requiring management of legal support staff and accountability for their work.

  • Highly prefer experience managing legal work for hospital and medical group executives in a high pressure, highly regulated environment, along with experience managing legal work for national, complex, and highly matrixed healthcare companies on sophisticated operational and strategic work with the potential for significant risk exposure.

  • Experience working as a Partner in a law firm advising health care clients is preferred.
