What does a great Principal Software Engineer do?

You're a seasoned back-end developer who thrives on the latest tech. You've got a solid grasp on service-oriented architecture and object-oriented design, making you a pro at designing and deploying features using XML and JSON Java web services. When it comes to cloud technologies like AWS and Azure, you're all about optimizing performance while keeping costs down. Your experience in the travel industry means you're a wizard at translating complex customer needs into smooth, high-performance software solutions. You're quick to grasp new ideas, setting the technical direction, establishing best practices, and confidently sharing your tech insights with senior leadership. Plus, you're a natural mentor, always ready to help your team grow and advance in their careers. You tackle your work with dynamism and self-motivation, bringing energy and enthusiasm to every project. Your approach is lean and agile, always ready to adapt and excel in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Drive overall architecture design to be performant, scalable, maintainable, and operationally cost efficient.
  • Leverage Tomcat, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure OpenShift platforms in your designs.
  • Focus on relentless performance measurement and tuning activities to meet system capacity needs.
  • Set direction and improvement of Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes.
  • Mentor our engineers and leads in whiteboard sessions, code reviews, and pair programming.

Who we are looking for in this role:

  • You will be a significant contributor to Travelport's Shopping space by:
    • Setting the technical vision and roadmap to ensure applications are modern and cost-efficient.
    • Architecting, designing, and implementing stable, performant, scalable, and maintainable backend SOAP and REST services helping Travelport to reduce operational costs.
    • Reducing time to market and shifting quality left through development of CI/CD workflows using Git Actions.
    • Leading and mentoring a large engineering team to thrive and grow in a challenging and nurturing environment.
    • Delivering major initiatives that are mission-critical to the organization.
    • Trailblazing for the organization and the industry into modern technologies and strategies.

Salary Target: $165,000-$170,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
