Scientist/Planner

We are looking for an entry-level candidate to join our Natural Resources Group. This individual will be involved in both field and office assignments on projects addressing potential environmental elements such as NEPA compliance documentation/reviews, natural resource impacts, documentation, and permitting with close supervision by a Senior Scientist, Project Manager or assigned staff. This position will have a hybrid work schedule and, when in the office, will work from our Omaha, NE or Bellevue, NE office.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Collect, assimilate, and organize field data and research materials.
  • Field responsibilities include on-site data collection and documentation of plant and vegetation, soil, cultural/historic features, wildlife, socio-economic features and environmental site assessments.
  • Office activities may include compiling data into a report or other formal document, incorporating data into a database, completing permit applications and preparation of agency correspondence.
  • Perform environmental work independently or with project team, with supervision from managers and project team members within the allotted timeframe and budget, in a cooperative manner and in accordance with local, regional, national or client or company standards.
  • Basic calculations of project elements and verify accuracy.
  • Basic inspections and construction observation responsibilities associated with environmental projects.
  • Basic analysis of project elements, and collected data for use in documentation, design, permitting, planning, and/or analysis of project systems or solutions.
What We Are Looking For
  • 0-3+ years of experience or relevant educational experience.
  • Basic technical knowledge of various environmental project tasks: wetland identification and monitoring; wildlife surveys; T&E identification; and/or preparation of NEPA documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable planning and regulatory codes and standards.
  • Basic knowledge of public involvement process.
  • Demonstrate basic writing skills, including emails, project memos and technical reports.
  • Develop knowledge of basic planning principles, practices and techniques related to service area.
  • Develop an understanding of the "big picture" and how the tasks that are performed on a daily basis contribute to project success, business goals and planning in general.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office and ArcGIS products commonly used in execution of assigned work.
  • Basic knowledge of other graphic tools to prepare maps, infographics, exhibits and charts.
  • Prepare maps and assist in spatial analyses, prepare written summaries of analyses.
  • Comply with all project and company safety guidelines.
