As the Stormwater Technician or Operator, you'll be the backbone of our Public Works team, playing a vital role in the upkeep and enhancement of our town's stormwater systems and infrastructure.

This position works under well-established guidelines to develop sufficient knowledge to independently perform and assume responsibilities. Under general supervision, this role will perform a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled laboring tasks in the operation and maintenance of Town stormwater systems, right of ways, and in support of the operation and maintenance of the distribution system, wastewater collections system and other Town infrastructure; and perform related work as required.

The Stormwater Technician/Operator primarily works for the Storm Maintenance Division within Public Works, however cross-training and other duties may be assigned. All staff are expected to adhere to the Town's mission, vision, and values of PRIDE.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm

This position must be able to work an on-call schedule as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities and duties vary depending on the level of the position. The level of aid, assistance, or support required may differ based on the role you are hired for. Below is a general overview of responsibilities, which may be tailored according to the specific level."

Essential

  • Aid in a variety of routine to complex maintenance and construction activities to include storm sewer jetting, manhole maintenance and inspection, storm water system maintenance, CCTV inspections, ditch maintenance and repair, detention pond maintenance and repair, and right of way maintenance
  • Aid in installation and maintain a variety of specialized and complex equipment related to storm operations and collection and performs light mechanical repair and maintenance
  • Aid in operations of heavy and light duty equipment to perform related maintenance and construction assignments
  • Aid in a variety of heavy laboring activities including the use of hand tools, light power equipment, string trimmers, landscaping tools, and heavy construction and maintenance equipment
  • Aids in inspections collection and storm installations and works with Town inspectors as needed
  • Aid in snow removal activities either by hand, small equipment or heavy equipment as assigned

Administrative and Customer Service

  • Aids data entry of information, maintenance logs and other data in spreadsheets and related software
  • Aids in response to customers and contractors' inquiries and complaints
  • Help prepares necessary records and reports

Safety

  • Performs a variety of duties that require considerable knowledge of the use and wear of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Performs routine safety checks of equipment and minor maintenance activities on vehicles and equipment and maintains records of activities
  • Maintains a safe working environment to include working in traffic and congested areas, working in ditches and confined spaces and all work environments
  • Assists in the cleaning and organization of shop area

Operations & Maintenance Support

  • Assisting D&C with sanitary sewer jetting, hydrant flushing and maintenance, repair water, sewer, valve exercising and maintenance, PRV inspections and maintenance, monitoring lift stations, and CCTV inspections of the utility system
  • Assisting Meters with reading and maintenance, service orders, conducting turn-offs and turn-ons of residential and commercial water services
  • Assisting Streets with maintenance of roadways and signage.
  • Assisting Locates with utility locates
  • Assisting in Town events preparation, operation and break down
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Stormwater Maintenance Technician

High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
  • Required to obtain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class B within one year
  • Preferred to obtain but required in order to advance: Class 1 Wastewater Collection System Operator from the Colorado Operator Certification Program
  • Preferred to obtain but required in order to advance: Flagger Certification

Stormwater Maintenance Operator I

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) with one (1) year of laboring, maintenance, equipment operations or other experience preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
  • Required to obtain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class B within one year
  • Permit Required Confined Space Certification within one year
  • Flagger Certification
  • Class 1 Wastewater Collection System Operator from the Colorado Operator Certification Program
  • Managing a Successful Stormwater Planned Maintenance Program from Stormwater One

Stormwater Maintenance Operator II

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) with two (2) years of working experience in the utility field. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
  • Required to have valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class B with tanker endorsement
  • Flagger Certification
  • Permit Required Confined Space Certification
  • Permanent Stormwater Control Measures Inspection and Maintenance from Colorado Stormwater Center (CSU)
  • Level II certification in Wastewater Collections from the Colorado Operator Certification Program
  • Post Construction Stormwater Maintenance from Stormwater One
  • A combination of years of working experience and time may be considered

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: Learn to use hand tools and heavy equipment such as backhoe, dump truck, skid steer and other mobile machinery. Knowledge of basic math skills including how to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Skills in: Ability to learn to use hand tools and heavy equipment such as front-end loader, motor grader, sweeper, backhoe, dump truck, skid steer, and other mobile machinery. Ability to complete basic math such as how to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read maps and drawings. Ability to trouble-shoot and resolve problems involving variables in any standardized situation.

Environmental Factors:
Work is frequently performed in an outside setting. Tasks frequently require outside work with moderate to high noise levels and local travel (rarely requiring out of town travel). Tasks frequently include walking on uneven surfaces and exposure to chemicals, gases, fumes, dust, vibrations, use of light to heavy equipment operations and working in traffic; occasionally working with heights and extreme temperatures.

Physical Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly grasping, fingering, and handling items as well as talking and hearing. Employee will frequently be sitting, standing, reaching, or walking for extended periods of time, use of near visual acuity and constantly moving objects weighing over 10 pounds, frequently over 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Occasionally tasks require stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, balancing, use of far visual acuity, color discrimination, and peripheral vision. Employee may rarely have tasks requiring running or use of depth perception.
