Thomson Reuters produces widely used litigation support software for court reporters and attorneys. West LiveNote Case Notebook provides industry-standard solutions enabling litigators to manage and analyze transcripts, deposition exhibits, documents and Westlaw Research.
Job Description:
The West LiveNote Case Notebook team is looking for an experienced, motivated self-starter to write and update installation guides, online help, and design specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Learn a suite of software products associated with the legal industry.
  • Understand and document how West Case Notebook, affiliated software, and Web applications integrate with one another.
  • Update existing design specifications.
  • Work with management team, development team and quality assurance to produce new design specifications.
  • Write and update online help systems.
  • Document installation procedures for desktop and server applications.
  • Explain new features to other departments (for example, technical support).

Qualifications
Requirements:
  • Four year college degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Three to five years experience working for a software development company producing installation guides, online help and/or design specifications.
  • Experience customizing graphics with applications such as PaintShop Pro, PhotoShop, or Microsoft Paint.
  • Experience in the software design process.
  • Experience writing functional or technical requirements for software.
  • Experience documenting desktop applications that retrieve data from network and Web databases.
Required Software Skills:
  • Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Adobe RoboHelp HTML (CHM and Web Help).
  • Microsoft Word (at an expert level).
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server.
Preferred Experience:
  • Working with legal software (for example, Westlaw, E-Transcript Manager, LiveNote).
  • Documenting or in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Remote Access Server and Active Directory Authentication.
  • Documenting or in-depth knowledge of how to configure IIS and create IIS websites.
  • Experience documenting or working with mulitple server operating systems (for example, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008 Standard, and Windows Server 2008 R2).
  • Experience writing software requirements for desktop and Web applications.
  • Experiencing using HP Quality Center to document and track defects.
