The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the Colorado School of Mines invites applications for instructors for introductory level coordinated courses in the department. For Fall 2024, these courses are Calculus I and Calculus II. Adjunct faculty are hired per semester and have opportunities to teach up to three or four courses each semester. The calculus courses listed above are taught in a coordinated setting which includes use of the common homework and exams, as well as a common course calendar and learning objectives. Adjunct faculty participate in group grading for course exams and will perform other grading duties depending on the course. All course materials and student communications are managed using the learning management system Canvas. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach assigned classes as per course syllabus and schedule to meet the required contact hours.

• Employ relevant teaching strategies and foster a supportive learning environment that encourages student success.

• Assess student work and progress toward mastery of learning outcomes with timely feedback.

• Hold weekly office hours.

• Utilize the class technologies to help with course management, course delivery, and student communication including the LMS Canvas.

• Attend a weekly instructor meeting (as necessary).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in mathematics, statistics, or related field.

• Proven (or promise thereof) teaching ability with college-level mathematics or statistics courses.

• Ability to work in a team and teach in a coordinated setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD in mathematics, statistics, or related field.

• Experience with learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), online homework systems (e.g. MyLab Math), and/or online grading platforms (e.g. Gradescope).

• Familiarity with best practices in mathematical pedagogies.

Annual Rate and Benefits

Salary range: $7,680- $8,800 per section. A combination of the candidate's education and the number of course preps are the factors that determine the course salary.
