Reporting to the Director of Intramural Sports, the Intramural and Club Sports Intern will work to support the mission and core values of the University and Department. The Intramural and Club Sports Intern will work collaboratively with the Director of Intramural Sports, as wells as the Senior Director of Intramural & Clubs Sports to provide diverse intramural and club sport opportunities for the Mines community.This position is part-time, 30 hours per week. This position works a flexible schedule on campus in Golden, Colorado, and will require some nights and weekend availability.
Responsibilities
Intramural Sports:
Contribute to the overall vision, development, execution, and assessment of Intramural Sports. Assist with the daily operations of the Intramural Sports program. Assist with planning, developing, and scheduling of leagues & tournaments that will meet the diverse needs of the campus community, while anticipating and responding to both current users and national trends. Assist with implementation of Intramural Sports Physical Activity credit opportunities that contribute to the signature student experience at Colorado School of Mines. Manage registration, payments, and participation through IMLeagues. Facilitate open play opportunities on the Intramural fields for the Mines community. Stay abreast of best practices and network with colleagues via professional associations.
Student Staff Supervision:
Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluating and payroll management of 75+ student staff for over 10,000 hours per year. Primary focus on hiring and training student officials for basketball, flag football, indoor/outdoor soccer. This includes training in general policies and procedures, sport specific rules, workflow management software, First Aid, CPR & AED certification, and risk management protocols. Teach students job skills such as time management, risk management, conflict resolution, and public speaking. Provide leadership opportunities that incorporate learning outcomes while providing quality service to the campus community.
Club Sports:
Contribute to the overall vision, development, execution, and assessment of the Club Sports program. Assist with implementation of Club Sport Physical Activity Credit by tracking attendance at practices. Serve as onsite administrator for home club sport games, tournaments, and special events.
Risk Management:
Serve as primary risk manager for Intramural & Club Sports events on issues related to injuries, weather, facilities, and sportsmanship. Establish participant and employee manuals to ensure compliance with risk management, injury protocol and emergency action plans. Teach First Aid, CPR & AED courses to the intramural & club sports staff, club sports athletes, other recreational sports staff and members of the Mines campus community.
Administration:
Assist the Director of Intramural Sports in the development of the Intramural Sports budget. Assist with the purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of program related equipment. Submit participation and annual statistics reports.
Develop, implement, and assess administrative policies and procedures for Intramural Sports for effectiveness and satisfaction of programs, services, and facilities.
Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan to include various mediums i.e., print, electronic, and social. Collaborate with other university departments to enhance opportunities for the campus community as well as market our programs.
Assist with scheduling the Intramural Sports fields for intramural sports, club sports, Mines campus community and external groups for over 8,000 programming hours per year.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field
- Broad-based experience in collegiate intramural & club sports
- Previous experience/knowledge of officiating basketball, flag football and soccer with an emphasis on soccer.
- Experience supervising student employees
- Experience working with coaches and volunteers
- Valid driver's license that is maintained throughout the duration of employment.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
- Excellent organization, leadership and communication skills, including, but not limited to written, oral and interpersonal skills; and computer literacy
- Strong conflict resolution and customer service skills
- Ability to function in a fast paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by athletes.
- Ability to visually monitor athletes.
- Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to read text on screen
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education or related field
- High School officiating certifications in basketball, football or soccer.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with NIRSA and NIRSA National Championship Series programs
- Registered Collegiate Recreational Sports Professional(RCRSP)
- NIRSA Professional Member
- Proficient in the use of the following: Fusion, IMLeagues, SubItUp, EMS Scheduling, SideArm Sports, YouTube, AMX, Neptune Radio, EngagePHD, Canvas, Canva Microsoft Office (specifically Microsoft Teams)
Salary
$22 hourly
